Ravi Coltrane is the son of jazz pianist Alice and saxophonist John Coltrane. He is also a relative of Steven Ellison, nicknamed Flying Lotus, an experimental music producer. He was named after sitar artist Ravi Shankar and was reared in Los Angeles, California. When his father died in 1967, Coltrane was only two years old.
