Rashida Tlaib is an American politician and social worker serving as the U.S. Representative for Michigan's 13th congressional district since 2019. She is a member of the Democratic Party and is one of the first two Muslim women to serve in the United States Congress, along with Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
Before being elected to Congress, Tlaib served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. Tlaib was born in Detroit, Michigan, to Palestinian immigrant parents. She grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Detroit and attended public schools in the city.
