Rani Hong Biography

Rani Hong is a child trafficking victim and co-founder of the Tronie Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about the human cost of slavery throughout the world. Mrs. Hong's major purpose for the Foundation is to mentor survivors of slavery in order to help them become leaders and to collaborate with global leaders in the fight to abolish human trafficking. Rani addressed many prominent leaders in politics, business, and philanthropy on behalf of survivors in 2010, including the UN Secretary-General, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Bollywood actors, entertainment celebrities Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher, and Mira Sorvino, Egypt's First Lady Suzanne Mubarak, and Princess Mathilde of Belgium. She was recently invited to the first Delhi Dialogue, a gathering of humanitarian leaders held by the Dalai Lama to examine remedies to human rights abuses. Rani has assisted worldwide government officials, non-governmental organizations, companies, philanthropists, and journalists comprehend the circumstances that lead to the potential and endurance of slavery by sharing her experience. She spoke at the UN General Assembly's Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking as the closing speaker and has attended several international forums. Her tale has been featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, CNN International, BBC World News, and several other outlets across the world. Rani has received several honors, including the UN Association of Seattle's Human Rights Award in 2008 and the Jefferson Award for Public Service in 2010. Rani was awarded a special invitation to collaborate with the United Nations Global Initiative to Combat Human Trafficking in November 2011. (UN.GIFT). Rani is working with the UN.GIFT is in this position to implement a Global Action Plan and to assist create and bridging collaboration among all stakeholders to prevent human trafficking. Rani thinks that by working together, we can create a worldwide movement for today's slaves to be free. Rani's ability to address this tough issue in an engaging way, while keeping the focus on the strength of the human spirit, has shown her potential as a leader in this sector - seen in both grassroots outreach and the highest dialogues with global leaders.
