He reports to Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer Sam Palmisano and is responsible for the organization's global human resources practices, policies, and operations. Mr. MacDonald was the executive vice president of GTE's Human Resources and Administration department before joining IBM (now Verizon Communications). Mr. MacDonald worked for GTE for 17 years, rising through the ranks of the company. He worked in human resources at Ingersoll-Rand Company and Sterling Drug, Inc. before joining GTE.
