Raffi Freedman-Gurspan is an American transgender rights activist and former White House staffer. She was born in Honduras and adopted by an American Jewish family in Brookline, Massachusetts. In 2015, she became the first openly transgender woman to work as a White House official.
She served as the Outreach and Recruitment Director for Presidential Personnel and later as the White House LGBT Liaison under the Obama administration. Freedman-Gurspan has been a vocal advocate for transgender rights, particularly around violence against transgender women of color and the need for more comprehensive healthcare for transgender people.
