Rafael Yuste is a Spanish-American neurobiologist and professor at Columbia University in New York City. He obtained his bachelor's degree in physics from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1986. He then moved to Germany to work on his Ph.D. in biophysics at the Max Planck Institute for Medical Research, which he completed in 1991.
He then continued his postdoctoral work at the University of California, San Francisco. Yuste's research focuses on understanding the functioning of neural circuits in the brain, particularly in the context of sensory perception and behavior. He has significantly contributed to developing new imaging techniques that allow the visualization and manipulation of individual neurons and circuits in living organisms.
