Rachel Sumekh is an Iranian-American social entrepreneur and founder of Swipe Out Hunger. This nonprofit organization addresses food insecurity on college campuses across the United States. Rachel began Swipe Out Hunger as a student at UCLA in 2009 after noticing that many of her classmates were skipping meals due to financial constraints. She realized that many students needed to be made aware of the resources available to them and decided to take action. Rachel worked with the university to create a program that allowed students to donate unused meal swipes to other students in need. The program was a huge success and led Rachel to expand the program to other universities across the country. Today, Swipe Out Hunger has served over 2.5 million meals at more than 120 colleges and universities nationwide. Rachel's work with Swipe Out Hunger has earned her numerous accolades, including being named to Forbes' 30 Under 30 list for social entrepreneurship and receiving the 2020 Campus Compact Impact Award. Former President Obama has also recognized her for her work addressing food insecurity on college campuses. She graduated from UCLA with a master's degree in public policy from the University of Southern California.
