Rachel Sumekh is an Iranian-American social entrepreneur and founder of Swipe Out Hunger. This nonprofit organization addresses food insecurity on college campuses across the United States. Rachel began Swipe Out Hunger as a student at UCLA in 2009 after noticing that many of her classmates were skipping meals due to financial constraints.
She realized that many students needed to be made aware of the resources available to them and decided to take action. Rachel worked with the university to create a program that allowed students to donate unused meal swipes to other students in need.
