Rachel Khong is a writer and editor based in Los Angeles. She was born in Malaysia to a Malaysian Chinese family and moved to the U.S. at age two. She grew up in Southern California and graduated from Yale University with a degree in English. Her debut novel, "Goodbye, Vitamin" (2017), won the California Book Award for First Fiction and was named a best book by NPR. Her second novel, "Real Americans" (2024), became a New York Times bestseller. It explores Chinese American identity, family, and belonging across generations. In April 2026, she released her first story collection, "My Dear You." Khong previously edited at Lucky Peach magazine. She also founded The Ruby, a creative space for women and nonbinary writers and artists.
