Quardean Lewis-Allen is a social entrepreneur and founder of Made in Brownsville. After growing up in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Quardean went on to study architecture at Syracuse University. However, after graduation, he was drawn back to his hometown. He saw the potential for using design to address his community's social and economic challenges. In 2013, he founded Made in Brownsville.
This nonprofit organization aims to empower young people in the neighborhood through design and creative skills. Made in Brownsville provides after-school and summer programs for local youth, teaching graphic design, product design, and architecture skills. The organization also operates a design studio that employs local young people and provides them professional experience and mentorship.
