Prabal Gurung is a Nepalese-American fashion designer based in New York City. Gurung launched his eponymous fashion line in 2009 and has become known for his elegant and modern designs. He has dressed several high-profile celebrities, including Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, and Kate Middleton. Gurung was born in Singapore and raised in Nepal.
He moved to New York City in the late 1990s to attend Parsons School of Design. After graduating, he worked for several well-known fashion designers, including Cynthia Rowley and Bill Blass. In addition to his work in fashion, Gurung is also known for his activism. He has spoken about immigration, LGBTQ rights, and women's rights.
