Phillip Lopate is an essayist, film critic, and professor who has published numerous works on literature, film, and personal narrative. He has published four collections of personal essays, including Bachelorhood and Against Joie de Vivre, and is also the editor of The Art of the Personal Essay. Lopate has also published several fiction, poetry, and literary criticism works.
Lopate has taught at several universities, including Columbia University, where he is currently a professor in the Writing Program. He has also taught at New York University and the University of Houston. In addition to his teaching, Lopate has worked as a film critic for several publications, including The Village Voice and Artforum.
