Phelim McAleer is an investigative journalist and filmmaker. He's made documentaries for CBC (Canada) and RTE (Ireland), as well as two feature-length films on his own. McAleer worked as a foreign journalist for the Financial Times in Eastern Europe before becoming a filmmaker. For the Economist, he also covered Romania and Bulgaria.
He formerly worked for the Sunday Times in the United Kingdom, where he covered Ireland. In addition to Romania, he has worked as a filmmaker and journalist in Uganda, Madagascar, Bulgaria, Chile, Indonesia, Canada, and China. McAleer began his career as a reporter for the Crossmaglen Examiner, a small Armagh newspaper in Northern Ireland.
