Peter Tyack is a marine biologist and an animal behavior and bioacoustics expert. He is a Senior Scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and a Visiting Professor at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. Tyack received his Ph.D.
in biology from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1983, where he researched the vocal behavior of marine mammals. He joined the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in 1984, where he established the Marine Mammal Behavioral Ecology Group to study the behavior and vocal communication of whales, dolphins, and porpoises.
