Patrick first stepped into the newsroom in 1986 when he began working as Weekend Assistant Assignment Editor at KDFW-TV in Dallas. He got in front of the camera for the first time in 1988 at KLAX-TV in Alexandria Louisiana. His next move was to KVUE-TV in Austin Texas. With increased airtime and exposure his career flourished.
By 1995 Patrick found himself covering the O.J. Simpson trial for the syndicated TV show A Current Affair. Patrick then made the leap to network television and soon found himself anchoring live coverage of Princess Diana's death for both NBC and MSNBC. In 1997 Patrick began working for E! News as a correspondent.
