Patrick was born to parents of Croatian and Irish descent and grew up in the Los Angeles waterfront district of San Pedro. Patrick's father being a lifeguard put him on the beach for much of the first part of his life enjoying the ocean and everything that went with it.
Mother and father both with artistic backgrounds in painting writing and music induced the same appetites in their son as well as athletics. He played college football for the U.S.C. Trojans. After appearing in the Men of U.S.C. calendar he was approached by Calvin Klein and accepted the offer to strike a few poses in their jeans campaigns.
