Chappatte is also a pioneer of comics reportage whose stories include the war in Gaza the slums of Nairobi gang violence in Central America and the dark side of Silicon Valley. In 2016 with the help of journalist Anne-Frdrique Widmann he created Inside Death Row a five-part series for the New York Times -- its first foray into graphic journalism.
