Patricia Barber is a jazz and blues singer, pianist, composer, and bandleader from the United States. In 2003, she received a Guggenheim Fellowship in the subject of Creative Arts - Music Composition. Barber was born in Chicago, Illinois, to two professional musicians' parents. Floyd Shim Barber, her father, was a former member of Glenn Miller's band.
Barber grew up in the Nebraska town of South Sioux City. Her music is based on her singing, which is done in a low range and in a classic blues-jazz manner, and her technically skilled piano playing.
