Ottessa Moshfegh is an acclaimed novelist and short story writer known for her darkly comic, gritty fiction. She grew up in Newton, Massachusetts, studied at Barnard College, earned an MFA from Brown University, and held a Stegner Fellowship at Stanford. Her debut novella “McGlue” (2014) won the Fence Modern Prize and Believer Book Award. Her first novel, “Eileen" (2015), won the PEN/Hemingway Award and was adapted into a 2023 film. She gained cult status with “My Year of Rest and Relaxation” (2018), about a woman drugging herself into a year-long sleep in pre-9/11 New York. Other works include the story collection “Homesick for Another World” (2017), “Death in Her Hands” (2020), and “Lapvona” (2022).
