Orhan Pamuk is the Robert Yik-Fong Tam Professor in the Humanities at Columbia University and the 2006 Nobel Laureate in Literature. He was born on June 7, 1952, in Istanbul, and dropped out of the Istanbul Technical University's architecture school after three years to pursue a career in literature.
His works include The White Castle, The Black Book, Snow, and The Museum of Innocence, his most recent. His writings have been translated into more than fifty languages, and he holds honorary doctorates from the Free University of Berlin, Tilburg University, Boaziçi University, and Georgetown University. He currently resides in New York City.
