Nova Spivack is one of the most outspoken proponents of the coming Semantic Web, often known as Web 3.0. Nova established Radar Networks with the goal of creating Twine, the next generation of social software based on the Semantic Web. Twine is a one-of-a-kind Semantic Web application that allows users to organize, exchange, and find content related to their passions with a community of like-minded people. Internet.com purchased EarthWeb's content holdings in 2000, but the company's Dice.com property remained a stand-alone business until it was purchased for about $200 million in 2005. Nova helped important cultural organizations and corporations, such as the New York Stock Exchange, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, BMG Music Club, Sony, AT&T, US West, and others, to create their first large-scale Web presences while at EarthWeb. He also aided in the acceptance of Java technology by spearheading the development of significant online technology forums for IT professionals, such as Gamelan.com, Developer.com, and Datamation.com. Prior to joining EarthWeb, Nova worked with companies such as Individual, Inc., Xerox/Kurzweil, and Thinking Machines, all of which specialize in artificial intelligence and supercomputing. Nova is also the creator of Lucid Ventures, an early-stage incubator that gave birth to the Radar Networks technology. Nova is a co-founder of the San Francisco Web Innovators Network (SFWIN), a Bay Area-based network of several hundred technological innovators and business executives. Nova helped co-found nVention, SRI's in-house technology incubator, alongside SRI and Sarnoff Laboratories at the end of the 1990s. In the early days of the Web, Nova also assisted in the development of important technologies for interactive television and Web convergence, as well as many pending patents for Radar Networks. Radar Networks is one of the most well-known venture-backed startups dedicated to bringing the Semantic Web to the masses. Since the company's inception and the start of R&D in 2003, Nova has guided the company's strategic direction, technology, and products. Nova has created and assisted in the creation of numerous major ontologies in the OWL language, the W3C open standard for ontology definitions, and has significant expertise working on knowledge representation and the Semantic Web. Nova has also collaborated with SRI International on the DARPA CALO initiative, a dispersed research effort involving hundreds of top academics working on next-generation knowledge management and machine-learning technologies, and specifically on the IRIS Semantic Desktop project. Nova has always been fascinated by cognitive science, artificial intelligence, emergent computation, knowledge management, and the Semantic Web's emergence. He shares his family's legacy of interests in management theory, nonprofits, and knowledge work as the grandson of management expert Peter F. Drucker. Nova has spent over two decades studying Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, art, and culture in monasteries, refugee camps, and villages in Nepal, India, Europe, and the United States. Nova devotes his charitable efforts to assist in the funding of Tibet's distinctive wisdom culture. Nova holds a BA in Philosophy from Oberlin College, with a concentration in cognitive science and artificial intelligence, and a CSS from the International Space University, a NASA-funded graduate professional management school for the space sector. Nova's passion in space led him to assist pioneer the early days of space tourism in 1999 when he went to the edge of space with Space Adventures and trained with the Russian air force in microgravity parabolic flying. Nova co-authored many books on Internet strategy and technology and co-founded the EarthWeb Press publishing label with Macmillan Computer Publishing, one of the world's major computer book publishers, which resulted in a series of books by top technical authors.
