Nimesh Patel is an American comedian, Emmy-nominated writer, and television producer of Indian Gujarati Hindu descent. His parents moved from India in the 1970s, and he was raised in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey. Patel initially pursued a pre-med path at New York University, graduating with a finance degree in 2008. While working day jobs, he performed stand-up at The Stress Factory, eventually moving to Brooklyn, where he now resides.
Discovered by Chris Rock in 2015 at a Greenpoint, Brooklyn, comedy show, Patel was hired to write for the 2016 Academy Awards and tour with Rock. In 2017, he became the first Indian American writer for Saturday Night Live, contributing to "Weekend Update" and earning an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Writing in 2018. He also wrote for Hasan Minhaj's 2017 White House Correspondents' Dinner. He worked as a producer for 'Full Frontal with Samantha Bee". Patel's stand-up specials, "Jokes to Get You Through Quarantine," "Thank You China," and "Lucky Lefty", have garnered millions of YouTube views.
