Nico & Vinz originally known as Envy made their debut appearance in 2011 at the Emergenza Festival. They won first place in the category for new emerging artists at the Taubertal Open Air Festival World's Emergenza Final. Following their success, the duo dropped Dreamworks: Why Not Me which was a mixtape under the name Envy. The duo released their debut single One Song in June 2011 and on the Norwegian Singles Chart, it peaked at No. 19. Also, On April 27, 2012, their debut studio album The Magic Soup and the Bittersweet Faces was released and on the Norwegian Albums Chart it charted At No. 37. The single Am I Wrong was released in April 2013 and it peaked at No. 2 on the Norwegian Singles Chart, the song went on to peak at No. 2 on the Swedish Singles Chart and No. 2 again on the Danish Singles Chart. And the song In Your Arms, which also charted in Sweden, Denmark and Norway was a follow up single. Kavar Singh was responsible for the direction and editing of the music video for Am I Wrong. It was filmed at the Victoria Falls between Zambia and Zimbabwe and also in Botswana. It was compiled in such a way that the positive sides of Africa could be highlighted and shared with the whole world despite negative views of Africa in many news stories. On June 20, 2013, the music video was released on YouTube and garnered attention with over 31 million views. The group performed in various major Norwegian television shows while aiming to break into the American market. In January 2014, The duo changed their name from Envy to Nico & Vinz in January 2014 in agreement to their Warner Bros Records signing in the United States to avoid being confused for other artists with a comparable name. In early 2014, Nico & Vinz received the European Border Breakers Award (EBBA) at Eurosonic Festival, performed at the Spellemann Awards, completed a Scandinavian tour and launched “Am I Wrong” worldwide. In April 2004, when “Am I Wrong” made its American radio debut, it was the No. 1 most added song at the Top 40/mainstream format with 90 adds, an oddity for a new artist. “Am I Wrong” sits at No. 1 on Shazam’s Top 100 Worldwide as one of the most Shazamed songs worldwide and has peaked and on the Billboard Hot 100, it peaked at No. 4.
