Nicholas Epley is a leading behavioral scientist and the John Templeton Keller Distinguished Service Professor of Behavioral Science at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He also serves as Faculty Director of the Roman Family Center for Decision Research. Epley earned a B.A. in psychology and philosophy from St. Olaf College and a Ph.D. in psychology from Cornell University. He began his academic career at Harvard before joining Chicago Booth in 2005. His research focuses on social cognition, including perspective-taking, anthropomorphism, and the psychology of social connection. He is the author of the bestselling book “Mindwise: How We Understand What Others Think, Believe, Feel, and Want” (2014) and the forthcoming “A Little More Social” (2026). Epley’s work has been widely featured in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and on NPR.
