Neely Tucker has worked in more than 50 countries on four continents. He covered violent conflicts in Europe Africa and the Middle East for years before falling in love with a terribly ill infant who had been left to die on the day she was born in AIDS-devastated Zimbabwe. Today that child is named Chipo Katherine Tucker.
He attended an all-white school left the Deep South and later married the girl next-door in downtown Detroit Vita Griffin a black woman 11 years his senior. Tucker explored these issues in Love in the Driest Season a 2004 memoir that was named the Inspirational Memoir of the Year by the Books for a Better Life Foundation.
