Nava Ashraf is a Canadian economist and Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). She serves as Co-Director of the Psychology and Economics program at STICERD, Research Director of the Marshall Institute for Philanthropy and Social Entrepreneurship, and Founder/Director of the Altruistic Capital Lab. Ashraf earned a B.A. in Economics from Stanford University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. She previously held faculty positions at Harvard Business School before joining LSE in 2016. Her research lies at the intersection of development economics, behavioral economics, and family economics. She conducts field experiments, primarily in Zambia and other developing contexts, examining topics such as household bargaining, fertility decisions, incentives in public service delivery, commitment savings, altruism, and prosocial motivation in organizations. A Fellow of the British Academy (FBA) and the European Economic Association, she is affiliated with J-PAL, CEPR, and BREAD.
