Grossman performed in community theatre shows while growing up. She attended high school and was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student in Argentina. She then applied to Northwestern University where she graduated with a theater major. Grossman was a part of The Groundlings in Los Angeles, California, a sketch comedy and improv group and she dreamed of performing on Saturday Night Live.
