Naftali Bennett is an Israeli politician, entrepreneur, and former prime minister. Raised in a Modern Orthodox Jewish family with American-immigrant parents, Bennett grew up between Israel, the U.S., and Canada, fostering his fluency in English and Hebrew. He served in the Israeli Defense Forces’ elite Sayeret Matkal unit during the 1990s, including in the Second Lebanon War, and later studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
Bennett made his fortune in tech, co-founding Cyota, an anti-fraud software company, in 1999, which he sold for $145 million in 2005. He entered politics in 2006, working as chief of staff to Benjamin Netanyahu, then opposition leader. A staunch nationalist, Bennett broke from Netanyahu to lead the far-right Jewish Home party in 2012, advocating for settlement expansion and opposing a Palestinian state. He held various cabinet roles under Netanyahu, including education minister (2015–2019) and defense minister (2019–2020).
