Nadav Aharony Biography

I am currently co-founder and CEO at Behavio. I completed my PhD at the MIT Media Lab's Human Dynamics research group. My research interests include social network dynamics mobile sensing communication technologies information security and privacy. My dissertation Social fMRI: Measuring and Designing Social Mechanisms using Mobile Phones included conducting the Friends and Family Study one of the largest mobile data experiments done in academia. In the study which lasted over a year we collected over 1 million hours of continuous mobile sensing data from members of a residential community gaining us unique insight into real world community dynamics and social behavior. I also initiated the open source mobile sensing platform that became Funf.org. While at MIT I was also a Fellow at the MIT Center for Civic Media for 3 years since its inception where I worked and taught on topics of mobile and social activism. Most recently I worked at Google as a product manager in the Android team. I have over 10 years of industry experience in engineering product management and business development roles in organizations ranging from startups to corporate environments. I received my PhD and MS degrees from the MIT Media Lab and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering cum-laude from the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology. I authored multiple patents in areas of social mobile networking machine learning network algorithms and sensor technologies. My work has been featured in both academic and popular press (Technology Review Businessweek.com Wall Street Journal Wired UK and The Associated Press among others) and received awards of recognition (including Best and Distinguished Paper awards Knight News Challenge SXSW Accelerator IPSN Extreme Sensing Competition and three Google Research Awards).
