Monty Are I (previously Monty's Fan Club and Monty) is a Cranston, Rhode Island-based alternative rock band. Monty just won Takeover Records' Sign My Band contest on MySpace but was upstreamed to Island Records after signing to Stolen Transmission. In 2002, they won the WBRU Rock Hunt, and in 2003, they won the Ernie Ball-sponsored Battle of the Bands. Monty has performed on several national tours, including five years with Vans Warped Tour and tours with Just Surrender, Amber Pacific, Anberlin, Power space, Rx Bandits, My Chemical Romance, Story of the Year, Sum41, Taking Back Sunday, Yellowcard, Hawthorne Heights, and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. In this Legacy, a song by Monty are I, appears in the Xbox/PS2 titles ATV Offroad Fury 4 and Tony Hawk's Project 8. On August 14, 2007, Monty Are I released their music video for Between The Sheets. They've announced on their Myspace website that their first album, Break Through The Silence, would be released exclusively under the Island/defJam label on September 22, 2009. The first single, One in a Million, was released on August 25, 2009. Monty Are I was once known as Monty's Fan Club and is named after Arthur Montanaro, a band instructor. The Are I part of the name is a play on RI, the postal abbreviation for Rhode Island.
