Pabrai worked for Tellabs from 1986 to 1991, initially in the high-speed data networking department and later in the worldwide subsidiary, where he worked in international marketing and sales. In 1991, he founded TransTech, Inc., an IT consulting and systems integration firm, using roughly $30,000 from his personal 401(k) account and $70,000 from credit card debt.
In 2000, he sold the firm for $20 million to Kurt Salmon Associates. He created the Pabrai Investment Funds (a series of hedge funds inspired by Buffett Partnerships) in 1999 and is now the managing partner. The Dhandho Investor: The Low-Risk Value Method to High Returns is his book on his investment technique.
