Mimi Chakarova, a photographer and filmmaker, has spent the last decade documenting global topics such as violence, corruption, and the sex trade. In 2011, she released The Price of Sex, a feature-length documentary on human trafficking and corruption. At the Human Rights Watch Film Festival in New York, Chakarova received the Nestor Almendros Award for bravery in filmmaking.
She was also a 2012 Dart Awards Finalist for Excellence in Trauma Coverage and the winner of the coveted Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding International Investigative Reporting.
