Milo Forman is a Czech film director, screenwriter, actor, and lecturer who mostly worked and resided in Czechoslovakia until 1968. Forman was a key figure in the Czechoslovak New Wave as a filmmaker.
On the surface, his 1967 film The Fireman's Ball was a naturalistic depiction of an ill-fated social event in a provincial town, but it was viewed as a biting satire on Eastern European Communism by both movie scholars and authorities in Czechoslovakia, resulting in its being banned for many years in Forman's home country.
