Prof. Mikhail Kats engages in experimental and theoretical exploration of topics across the fields of optics and photonics device physics and nano-science. The primary goals of the group are to investigate fundamental problems in optics and photonics and to create next generation optical components to emit modulate and detect light across the ultraviolet visible and infrared spectral ranges.
Past research accomplishments (many of them while Mikhail was a member of the Capasso group at Harvard University) include the invention and development of flat optical components based on metasurfaces ultra-thin optical coatings using highly-absorbing materials and dynamically tunable plasmonic nanostructures.
