Mike Stern Biography

Mike Stern leads a team that develops digital tools to help the world's farmers understand their fields in ways that have never before been possible. The company's digital agriculture platform Climate FieldView enables farmers to improve productivity better manage risk and farm more sustainably. Since joining Monsanto in 1988 Stern has served in leadership roles for a variety of its businesses including; Vice President U.S. Seeds and Traits; President American Seeds; CEO of Renessen LLC a biotechnology joint venture with Cargill; and Director of Technology Agricultural Productivity. Stern has a bachelor s degree in Chemistry from Denison University a master s in Chemistry from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Princeton University. He began his career as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology before starting at Monsanto. He is the author and inventor of more than 50 scientific publications and U.S. patents. He was the recipient of the Monsanto Thomas and Hochwalt Science and Technology Award and the Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award and was also appointed Monsanto Distinguished Science Fellow in 2002.
