Mike Rother is an engineer, researcher, teacher, and public speaker who specializes in management, leadership, improvement, adaptability, and change in human organizations. Rother is a member of the Industrial Technology Institute (Ann Arbor), the University of Michigan College of Engineering, the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (Stuttgart), and the Technical University Dortmund.
He developed ISD's Kata for Daily Improvement course. Rother is most known for his book Toyota Kata, which describes how to develop, activate, and mobilize human potential in such a way that scientific labor becomes second nature. Learning to See, his earlier book is widely regarded as the definitive explanation and user guide for Value Stream Mapping.
