About Mike Berkson And Tim Wambach
Mike Berkson And Tim Wambach Biography
Mike Berkson met Tim Wambach in 2001. Berkson suffers from cerebral palsy and has little control and independence due to his inability to use his arms and legs. Wambach was a driven young man seeking his place in the world. It is stated that everyone is seeking someone, and these two people were looking for each other in a roundabout way. When Berkson was 12, Wambach was recruited as his one-on-one helper. Wambach, who was 27 at the time, would assist Berkson with tasks that he couldn't do for himself, such as taking notes, eating, and going to the toilet, to mention a few. Berkson and Wambach began to build a link between the two worlds. Berkson's world of dependency and special requirements contrasts with Wambach's world of mobility and accessibility. Their friendship got stronger as their relationship expanded over time. Wambach joined Berkson on a school trip to Washington, DC in January 2003. Berkson would be apart from his family for the first time. Wambach came to understand what Berkson and his family went through on a daily basis here. Berkson discovered another supporter who might help him improve and overcome his physical limitations. Something he never expected to discover outside of his own family. What happened in DC was the trigger for a relationship and business partnership that has developed into something more. However, we've gotten ahead of ourselves. Throughout Berkson's first year of high school, he and Wambach continued to collaborate. Wambach went on to pursue a variety of things after that, but he always felt compelled to assist Berkson in some manner. Berkson and Wambach were always aware that they had a story to tell and that they intended to convey it to as many people as possible. The only remaining question was how. The best way to achieve this, they concluded, was to put pen to paper, or more precisely, fingers to keys, and produce something that would both inspire and entertain. Their narrative, 'How We Roll,' link to purchase the book here (originally published as Keep On Keeping On), was published in 2005. Berkson and Wambach both saw that the general public was unaware of the difficulties that the physically disabled group faces. The pair needed a way to get people's attention, so they came up with the wildest concept they could think of. Wambach planned to run across the country to raise awareness for those who had physical disabilities. The race would begin in Orlando, Florida, especially at Disney World, and conclude at Glenbrook South High School in Glenbrook, Illinois, where Berkson was a junior at the time. It would take 31 days to complete the journey. The month of August as a whole. Wambach's objective was to raise awareness of cerebral palsy, and they are pleased to report that the run was a huge success. What was the outcome? The Keep On Keeping On Foundation was founded by Berkson and Wambach to assist people with severe physical impairments such as cerebral palsy. They've assisted families in paying for treatment, equipment, house adaptations, and motorized wheelchairs, all in the name of helping the kid and the family. Berkson and Wambach used notoriety to launch a speaking career, telling their tale to a variety of audiences. Following their speaking success, the two were able to convey their message of tolerance and inclusion with their live two-man performance, "Handicap This!" which debuted in 2010.
