Miguel McKelvey Biography

Miguel McKelvey is the co-founder and Chief Culture Officer of WeWork, a real estate firm that offers businesses shared workplaces. At WeWork, he oversees all architectural, design, and construction operations. The We Company has established numerous new businesses since 2010, including WeLive, a co-living idea, Rise by We, a premium gym concept, and WeGrow, a private primary school. The We Company, a parent brand that includes WeWork, WeLive, WeGrow, and other projects, was launched in 2019. McKelvey was appointed WeWork's chief culture officer in 2017, and one of the Fast Company's Most Creative People in 2019. Prior to joining WeWork, he built the design foundation for American Apparel and oversaw the national retail roll-out, as well as being engaged in the early stages of many startups. He first attended Colorado College, where his professor, Carl Reed, suggested he explore architecture for graduate school after witnessing a sculpture he had produced. In 1999, he transferred to the University of Oregon, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in architecture. McKelvey was a two-year member of the Oregon Ducks basketball team during his tenure at the university. However, according to the official record book, he only lettered for one year, 1997.
