Miguel de Serpa Soares is the United Nations Legal Counsel and Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs. He is in charge of the Office of Legal Affairs, whose ultimate goal is to provide the UN with a uniform central legal service.
Serpa Soares was Director-General of the Department of Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal from 2008 to his present post. Since 2010, Serpa Soares has also served as a member of The Hague's Permanent Court of Arbitration.
