Miguel Angel Cardona is an American educator and member of the Democratic Party who formerly served as the 12th United States Secretary of Education under President Joe Biden. He was confirmed by the U.S. Senate through a vote of 64-33 on March 1, 2021, to take up this role.
From 2019 to 2021, Cardona served as the commissioner of the Connecticut State Department of Education. He hails from Meriden, Connecticut, where he began his career as a fourth-grade teacher at Israel Putnam Elementary School. In 2003, at just 27 years old, he became the principal of Hanover School in Meriden, thereby becoming the youngest principal in the state's history.
