Following the purchase of Xstrata by its largest investor Glencore in May 2013, Mick Davis, the former CEO of the mining company, has wasted no time diving back into the corporate pool. From 1980 until 1986, he worked as a senior manager for accountants Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. Before joining Gencor Ltd in 1994, Davis was an executive director of South Africa's state-owned Eskom, one of the world's major energy companies. From 1995 until his appointment as CEO and executive director of Billiton plc in July 1997, he served as executive chairman of Ingwe Coal Corporation Ltd. He is on the board of UJIA and is a member of the Jewish Leadership Council, among other humanitarian endeavors. He is also a member of the World Executive of Keren Hayesod – Israel United Appeal and the Board of Governors of the Jewish Agency for Israel. In the future, Davis plans to form X2 Resources, mid-sized diversified mining, and metals company that will employ Noble as its marketing arm, similar to how Swiss-based Glencore was used previously. Davis has secured $1 billion for his new mining company, with investors betting that the industry heavyweight can master the commodities cycle and repeat his success in building Xstrata into one of the world's greatest resource companies.
