Michelle Zimmerman Biography

Dr. Zimmerman is a Microsoft Innovative Educator Expert, Surface Expert, and Lead PBS DigitalMedia Innovator, as well as the 2016 NCCE Outstanding Technology Educator of the Year and the Ahead of the Class – Excellence in Education Award recipient (presented by Renton City Council and Seattle Seahawks). She has 16 years of experience teaching all grades from Pre-K to 10th, with an emphasis on middle and high school since 2009. Since 2007, she has presented her findings to Satya Nadella and his executive team around the United States and Canada. Renton Prep is an example of how she put her original study and theory into practice. She was overjoyed to learn that the school had been named a FETC STEM Excellence Award Finalist for 2016, as one of the top three STEM Middle Schools in the country, a Microsoft Showcase School, and had received The Learning Counsel's Award of Excellence for Digital Curriculum and Content Strategy, as well as the inaugural Lester R. Bayer Award for Excellence in Urban Education. Her high school STEM students contributed to her original research chapter in Revolutionizing Education with Digital Ink: The Impact of Pen and Touch Technology on Education by co-authoring an invited chapter with her (Human-Computer Interaction Series, Springer 2016). Her work leaves an indelible mark on her pupils, who submit their own projects, speak at international conferences, and co-author invited blogs.
