In September 2011, Michelle Relerford returned to NBC 5 News as a reporter and fill-in anchor. Relerford was born and reared in Chicago's South Side. She attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the University of Connecticut after graduating from Whitney Young High School. While in college, she worked as an intern for NBC Chicago's investigative team.
Relerford has worked as a reporter in South Bend, Indiana, and Cleveland, Ohio, and most recently as a weekend evening news anchor and reporter for WHDH-TV, the NBC station in Boston. Relerford was nominated for a local Emmy for spot news reporting while in Boston.
