Michelle K. Lee oversaw one of the world's most prominent intellectual property agencies as the Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for Intellectual Property and Deputy Director of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Ms. Lee provided leadership and oversight for the daily management of the policy budget and operations for an agency with over 12000 employees. She served as a principal advisor to the President through the Secretary of Commerce on domestic and international intellectual property matters. In addition, she spearheaded domestic innovation initiatives and international efforts to harmonize in support of the administration's primary economic goals to boost economic development.

Before taking on the position of Deputy Director, Ms. Lee was chosen in 2012 to be the first Director of the Silicon Valley branch of the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where she was in charge of setting up and running the office as well as guiding the USPTO on a range of policy issues.Ms. Lee formerly served on the USPTO's Patent Public Advisory Committee, which shows the USPTO on patent policies, goals, and operations after being appointed by the US Secretary of Commerce. Ms. Lee was named one of the top 100 most prominent women in Silicon Valley and the Best Bay Area IP Lawyer in 2012 by the San Francisco Business Times and San Jose Business Journal.
