Michelle Edkins Biography

Michelle Edkins is the global head of corporate governance and a managing director at BlackRock, where she is responsible for a 20-person investment team headquartered in five important worldwide locations. Edkins is in charge of the team's engagement and proxy voting operations in firms where BlackRock invests on behalf of customers. She is also a member of the Government Relations Steering Committee of the business. She was named to the 2012 NACD Directorship 100 Governance Professionals as an active participant in the public corporate governance discussion. Edkins was managing director of Governance for Owners before joining BlackRock in 2009. Edkins is a member of the Aspen Institute's First Movers program and the chairman of the International Corporate Governance Network's Board of Governors. Edkins, an economist by background, has worked in a variety of governance-related jobs in the United Kingdom as well as in government posts in her home New Zealand.
