Michel Houellebecq is a French novelist, poet, and essayist who has also dabbled in acting, filmmaking and singing. H. P. Lovecraft, the horror writer, was the subject of his first book, which was a biographical essay. In 1994, Houellebecq released his debut novel, Whatever.

Atomised, his next work, was released in 1998 and garnered him international acclaim as well as controversy. In 2001, Platform was released. He produced numerous collections of poetry, the most recent of which is The Art of Struggle in 1996. He earned the renowned Prix Goncourt for his book The Map and the Territory, which he released in 2010.
