Michael W. Young earned his PhD in genetics at the University of Texas at Austin and there participated in research involving fruit flies which he would go on to study further in his later career. Young has won several awards most notably a Nobel Prize in 2017 along with his fellow researchers Michael Rosbash and Jeffery C. Hall.
He has also won the Gruber Prize in Neuroscience the Canada Gairdner International Award the Shaw Prize and the Wiley Prize in Biomedical Sciences.
