Michael McPherson has been the president of the Spencer Foundation since 2003. For the preceding seven years, he served as president of Macalester College. McPherson, an economist who specializes in the intersection of education and economics, spent 22 years at Williams College as an economics professor, head of the Economics Department, and faculty dean.
McPherson is the co-author and editor of a number of publications, including College Access: Opportunity or Privilege? He was also the founding co-editor of the journal Economics and Philosophy. He is the president of TIAA-board CREF's of overseers and a trustee at McNally Smith College of Music and DentaQuest Foundation.
