In 2008, Michael Kneeland was named president and CEO of United Rentals, as well as a director of the firm. Since 2007, he had served as a temporary chief executive officer. After United Rentals acquired an Equipment Supply Firm in 1998, Mr. Kneeland joined the company as a district manager.
In 1999, his duties within United Rentals' aerial operations were expanded to span various districts. In 2000, he was promoted to vice president of aerial operations, then vice president of the southeast region in 2001, before being promoted to executive vice president of operations in 2003.
