Fagel, Ph.D., C He has worked in the fire service, emergency medical services, public health, law enforcement, and emergency management, as well as business safety, security, and hazard risk management, for almost three decades. He is currently a lecturer in the Masters of Public Policy and Administration Program at Northwestern University. He teaches Biodefense, Terrorism, and Homeland Security courses at the university. He also teaches Homeland Security at Northern Illinois University. He is also a teacher at Benedictine University's Master of Public Health program and Eastern Kentucky University's Master of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management program. He also assisted SBCCOM in their WMD facility support for the FEB at Aberdeen Proving Grounds. He was a team leader at Louisiana State University's National Center for Biomedical Research and Training (NCBRT), where he worked on the Response to Agricultural Terrorism Training Program and Public Health Programs in Response to High Consequence Events. He's given over 350 talks around the country and published over 100 articles on safety and catastrophe preparedness. He was also a member of the FBI's National Domestic Preparedness Office SLAG team (NDPO) in Washington. Fagel served as a safety officer and CISD debriefer for FEMA's Occupational Safety & Health Cadre in Washington for 10 years, responding to accidents and catastrophes such as the Oklahoma City Bombing. He most recently served the FDNY for almost 100 days during the 9-11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. In 2002, he was a part of a number of NLE activities as well as Salt Lake City EOC operations. He has developed and led exercises for a number of regional operations as well as particular federal partners. He spent many months in the Middle East assisting in the development of a national response strategy and the establishment of a new FEMA-style agency. He had multiple long-term deployments in the Middle East. In 2007, he attended the European Conference on Emergency Management in Budapest as a delegate. Fagel also works as a Homeland Security Analyst at Argonne National Laboratories, where he is responsible for the security of the critical infrastructure. He also serves on the Northern Illinois Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team, as well as the International Association of Fire Chiefs' Committee on Safety and Health and Terrorism Committee. He was a member of the Illinois Terrorism Task Force, the International Association of Emergency Managers' Region V President, and an IAEM Certified Emergency Manager Commissioner (CEM). He worked for North Aurora Fire Department for 28 years as an EMS Coordinator and Emergency Management Planner. He is the author of three textbooks on food safety and emergency management, as well as a chapter editor for a number of commercial textbooks. He's been on Fox, NBC, and NPR, among others.
