Michael Scott Hopkins is a NASA astronaut and a colonel in the United States Air Force. Hopkins was chosen as a member of NASA Astronaut Group 20 in June 2009. From September 2013 to March 2014, he flew as a Flight Engineer aboard the Soyuz TMA-10M/Expedition 37/Expedition 38 spacecraft. He is the first in his class to travel into space.
Hopkins was chosen as an astronaut candidate by NASA and the US Air Force and began training at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. He was named an astronaut after finishing astronaut candidate training.
