Michael Hopkins Biography

Michael Scott Hopkins is a NASA astronaut and a colonel in the United States Air Force. Hopkins was chosen as a member of NASA Astronaut Group 20 in June 2009. From September 2013 to March 2014, he flew as a Flight Engineer aboard the Soyuz TMA-10M/Expedition 37/Expedition 38 spacecraft. He is the first in his class to travel into space. Hopkins was chosen as an astronaut candidate by NASA and the US Air Force and began training at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. He was named an astronaut after finishing astronaut candidate training. On September 25, 2013, he and Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazansky flew aboard the Soyuz TMA-10M spacecraft, which docked with the International Space Station several hours later. Hopkins stayed aboard Expedition 37/Expedition 38 as a Flight Engineer until March 10, 2014. The crew conducted science experiments and maintenance while he was aboard the station.
